One Mum, A Plan & A Bunch of Passenger Princesses

If Barcelona is the dramatic older sibling, Valencia is the sassy, sun-kissed cousin that shows up with snacks and zero stress. From marine magic at Oceanogràfic to churro-fuelled treasure hunts in the Central Market, here’s how we did Valencia with kids — no tantrums, just 18,000 steps of pure fun.

VALENCIA: The Sassy Sister Barcelona Doesn’t Want You To Meet

Valencia was an absolute blast!

If Barcelona is the flashy older sibling constantly flexing its Gaudí curves and architectural drama, then Valencia is the effortlessly cool cousin

— the one who brings the best snacks to the party, gives zero fuss, and somehow manages to look amazing without even trying.

No crowds elbowing you at every corner — just vibes, sunshine, and the occasional sunset that looked like it was painted by a toddler with glitter crayons (and I mean that in the best way possible).

eWe set up camp at the Melia Hotel in Benicalap ([full review here— yes, I’m that person now]), and let me tell you — highly recommend.

Things to do:

aka “How to Entertain Kids Without Losing Your Mind or Your Dignity”

Oceanogràfic – AKA The Aquarium That Ate My Whole Day (Willingly)

I’ve seen a few aquariums in my time, but Oceanogràfic? This place deserves a standing ovation and possibly its own Netflix documentary.

Central Market – Come for the Culture, Stay for the Food and Snacks

Now this is where things got delicious.

️The Marina – Where the Vibes are Crisp and the Sand is Kid-Tested

The Marina area is basically a cheat code to a perfect afternoon.

Graffiti & Street Art – The Unexpected Open-Air Gallery

Valencia’s street art game is strong.

Like, really strong.

Final Thoughts – Valencia, You Saucy Little Gem

Would I go back to Valencia? It’s one of those cities that doesn’t shout — it just vibes.

Easygoing, welcoming, and full of little moments that make you go, “Ooh, I could totally live here and open a churro stand.”

It’s family-friendly without being cheesy, fun without being frantic, and lets you enjoy a proper adventure without needing a post-holiday recovery nap.

The people were kind, the energy was warm, and Google Translate did its best.

So yes — if you want a destination that’ll feed your belly, warm your soul, and gently tire your kids out by sunset, Valencia’s got your back.

Just bring suncream, comfy shoes, and a solid sense of humour — you’ll be using all three daily.
