We set up camp at the Melia Hotel in Benicalap, and let me tell you — highly recommend.

Not just because the location is ace (trendy, upmarket, and full of places where the coffee comes with latte art that makes you question your own handwriting), but because the hotel itself was genuinely lovely.
Clean, modern, super chilled — like it’s too cool to shout about it, but still has underfloor heating.
It’s in an area where the dogs wear better outfits than my entire suitcase (and possibly have stylists?), and getting around the city was an absolute breeze.
Metro? 10 minutes.
Tram? 5-minute skip.
Buses? They stop literally outside the front door — which was great, until my kids decided the hotel lobby was the perfect racetrack for testing how fast they could “accidentally” get on one.
The hotel staff?
Think Golden Retriever energy with name badges — warm, welcoming, and genuinely happy to help.
No one batted an eye at my “just let the kids dress themselves” fashion choices.

We booked a family room, which was spacious enough for the kids to run laps, build a blanket fort, and still have room to dramatically pretend to faint from “holiday exhaustion.”
Room service ran most of the day — which is dangerous if you have small snack-goblins living under your roof — and the lounge had lovely chill vibes and some background jazz that instantly made us feel 10% fancier.
The hotel’s got that modern, calm energy — like it’s totally fine being fabulous, even if no one’s posting it on TikTok.
And the area?
Packed with restaurants and bars, which is ideal if you manage to find a babysitter (or con someone into watching the kids while you pretend to “get bread”).
There are cafés and supermarkets on every corner — so you’re never far from snacks, caffeine, or emergency suncream…
Which, if you burn in the sun like a sparkly vampire (hi, it’s me), is very important.
Oh! And there’s this cute little park just five minutes away — perfect for pretending you’re in a laid-back Spanish romcom… until reality smacks you with the sound of three hyper kids scaling everything like caffeinated squirrels.
One can dream.
