Hidden above the glittering Bay of Kotor lies the sleepy stone village of Gornji Stoliv — emphasis on above.
Like… really above.

Think winding, bumpy manmade road where seatbelts feel like emotional support, followed by narrow mountain paths where one wrong step had me questioning every life decision that led to this moment.
Our lovely host kindly drove us up the “road” (using the term loosely here) and then it was up to our legs
— and sheer determination — to tackle the rest.
Yes, my 4-year-old and I climbed all the way up there, and yes, I questioned my fitness level approximately every 3 minutes.

Thankfully, some kind locals pointed us in the right direction and offered smiles of encouragement,
probably wondering what possessed me to drag a toddler up a mountainside.

At the top, we explored a beautiful property in the making, heard enchanting stories of the village’s past, and continued our climb (because why stop when you’re already halfway to Everest?) to the old church perched right at the top.

The views? Absolutely breathtaking — and not just because I was out of breath.
The history? Rich, layered, and full of heart.
The experience? Equal parts magical and mildly terrifying. Would 100% do it again.
So if you ever find yourself in Montenegro and fancy an off-the-beaten-path adventure with a little sweat, a lot of charm, and views that feel like a reward for surviving — Gornji Stoliv is your place.
